These are things that are currently leaking from my poor brain, making way for thoughts of Alaska, sleeping any time I want, and long hours of video game play :D

FIRST OFF! I have never heard the word analogous used in reference to anything but color harmony.

As an art student I know that the analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel, such as yellow, yellow-orange, and orange. They usually match well and  create serene and comfortable designs. Analogous color schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye. I love traveling and taking pictures of nature, which is probably why these schemes have always appealed the most to me. Today, though, on a lark, I decided to Dictionary.com this word and found some interesting entries. Apparently this word also has relevance in the realm of biology!

Analogous: 1. having analogy; corresponding in some particular: A brain and a computer are analogous.

2. Biology. corresponding in function, but not evolved from corresponding organs, as the wings of a bee and those of a hummingbird.

I have never thought of a brain and a computer being “analogous” but I guess I can see the logic to it. Now, if you delve even deeper into its’ meanings you can look up the word analogy. I stopped here though. I didn’t want to turn my dictionary into a Wiki, ya know? ;D

Secondly, I was introduced to the concept of kitsch art. Think Valentine’s Day heart with arrow going through it, skull & crossbones, roses, angels, garden gnomes, etc.

Kitsch: 1 : something that appeals to popular or lowbrow taste and is often of poor quality

2 : a tacky or lowbrow quality or condition <teetering on the brink of kitsch

I had never heard of this term before. I’m familiar with cliche but it’s a bit different. Anywho, I was informed that on my last drawing the zebra cup I used, was striking people as kitsch. It is a very simple ceramic mug with a cartoony zebra head at the handle. After being told about this term I easily understood how the cup wasn’t a good item to use when expressing my love of zebra stripes. It happens to be one of my favorite possessions but I needed a less straightforward way of incorporating zebra stripes into my work. Long story short, I revamped the entire piece the day before printing and got myself an A for my troubles. :D

Here’s my first, “kitsch” drawing…

And here’s my final, A grade, print :D

Moral of this story, always stay away from ideas and concepts that have been severely overused and are too concrete. I want people to work to have to understand my work, I shouldn’t just hand the meaning to them.

Lastly, things I have to work on this summer art wise are the three drawings for submission and finishing up some personal projects. Sadly though I feel the need to get up to 20k g in WoW first and foremost XD Sometimes I really wish I could turn off my addicted-to-luxury-and-no-work personality traits. Would definitely help me more productive, hehe.
