The survey room The aquatint rosin booth Katie and Lauren to apply rosin to their plates.
Breathing in the rosin is bad! Funny face mask are good though! :D The acid bath room. My favorite blackboard in the studios. It always has the most interesting writing on it.
The lithography room. Lithography is a lot of fun but at the same time rather nerve racking! :D Ehlbeck going over technique with Lindsay. Egan looks on during our weekend workshop with a couple visiting artists.
I had Keith model holding a gun for me. I had to make a print of a gangster's right arm. I envisioned a gangster as in the Dogfather type gangster. Complete with pin stripes and hand gun. Keith's dad had one he let us work with. I'd never held a gun before. It was heavier than I though it would be. My gangster arm design.
Here's my gangster arm attached to the forming gangster body. Each student had a body part to create and then they were all combined into one big paper doll. Proudly displaying my arm! Rachel's soccer mom arm!
Brian Sanderson looks on while we construct one of the dolls Brian helps Lauren work with the MDF board The happy family!
First step in any intaglio process is to bevel the edges of the plate. Rather grating on the ears if I do say so! :D Ehlbeck explains the working of the press. Getting ready to ink up a plate
"This sucks!"
Despite the odd looking appearance these magnified glasses you strap to your head are actually quite nice! It makes delicate marks much easier to make. Contemplating.
Lindsay carving into her MDF board. The first litho project I ever did was on an aluminum ball plate and before we started our own Ehlbeck gave each table a plate to draw on so we could get used to the materials. It was almost Halloween so of course we all drew Halloweeny things. Ehlbeck sees the plates and rants and raves about how uncreative we are. Good naturedly, he goes "Look at all the god damn pumpkins!"
My first black and white litho class. Kirk working on her stone For one class we had to dress up in costumes (which no one remembered to bring) and do a one day drawing of a classmate. I think Kirks get up was the best. She drew me and all I did was wrap blue shop towels around my head. I'm told I looked very Arab.
I costume that took me 3 mins to wrap around my noggin, hehe My drawing of Kirk Kick hard at work on one of her intaglio plates. Her pieces always have a lot of great detail.
Nothing like kicking back in the studio with a sketchbook in hand :D Going over mid-term reviews My station looks a little messy right now. Much like my room at home. I think I must just like clutter.
Robbie graining a stone. Tiffany looked like she just returned from the wilds of Alaska!
We picked on David for a long time about his cute little apron :D We had to glue our prints to a hard backing before we could put the pieces together. This stuff was horrid! All materials necessary for a good litho print. Water and solvent tusches, photo sponges, litho crayons, chemical gloves, paint brushes, stones, magnified glass, oh and of course, an Arby's roast beef coupon! :D
Revising my aquatint frog. My very first black and white litho project! An etch chart that we keep for future reference. I think I went a little to artisy with it and if I redo it I'll make a straight forward line chart. Nothing fancy Ehlbeck giving Mary some pointers
All of us working hard on our body part prints. Mary's perseverance was truly amazing to me! She really went all out! :D Mary working with our sexy visiting artist.
Jason and Egan going over his mid-term review.
Captain Kirk at her station! Kirk telling us about the dream she had where her bird met a tragic fate by her own hand... ...and Jason about to fall out of his chair laughing because he missed her say it was a dream and he thought she seriously made her bird fall apart. He's a horrible person! ;-)
Robbie is rockin' the night away!
Hard at work on her super ultramega print. "YOU AND THAT DAMN CAMERA!"
Smiles! :D Chilling in the Print Cave
Sitting at the Printmaking Guild table for the Valentines Day Sale.
We decided we wanted to make an indoor swimming pool for the visiting artist..so we stopped up the drain and let the room fill up :) Here's the beginning puddle.
And then it was decided maybe an indoor pool wasn't so awesome so we made Tiffany mop it up! And Egan unstopped the drain...
...and TIffany makes rude gestures. Robbie dressed up as a human canvas
I SEE YOU!!! Captain Kirk!
Our resident 12 year old with his cute kiddie apron!
Silly Kirk headgear! This guy cracks me up! :) Our visiting artist for this semester, Jenny Schmidt. We all got to assist her in printing a large edition of photo litho prints. Exciting stuff!
Smoot broke out Big Bubba for this print! It was glorious!
Kirk getting a print ready for a gallery. Smoot being all cool with the roller skills! He had this look of deep contemplation going on and I tried to get it but then he ruined it by smiling!
Our awesome Sponge Monkey! Today we had to inform Elhbeck of a ginormus rip in his pants that he failed to notice most of the day. A brave soul finally asked him if he was aware of it and it got a great big "Holy Crap!" out of him. He decided to just wear his apron backwards as a cover up. Hilarious!
Tiffany decided she likes the I'm-wounded-look so she came to school with her favorite accessories. The bright-eyed bushy-tailed return to the cave! We were a bundle of energy! :) Tiffany in the headlights!
Framing day for Undergrad show! I think I'll have the window in the mattboard pre-cut for me from now on. A little extra money saves some of my brain cells from dying when I try to do math XD Framing day!
Ehlbeck helps me measure out a window for the mattboard. Letting the measuring commence! Egan complicating everything! He was throwing out 'common demoninator' math at us! It was a smile and nod moment on my part.
Cutting windows into the mattboard.
